Tressel faces balancing act on oil and gas in new job at Youngstown State

New Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel faces the task of helping YSU build programs to meet the needs of Ohio’s growing oil and natural gas industry, reports the Youngstown Vindicator. But the newspaper says the former Ohio State University football coach will have to navigate the “cultural clash between academic and campus life versus the needs of the local oil and natural-gas industry.” Some Youngstown State professors have supported a proposed ban on hydraulic fracturing in Youngstown, while Ohio’s oil and gas boom presents growth opportunities for the university in areas such as advanced metallurgic, civil, electrical and radiological engineering.
