Slurry spill at ATEX Pipeline construction site in Muskingum County leaches into Wakatomika Creek

A drilling-related slurry has been leaching from a segment of construction for the Appalachia-to-Texas (ATEX) pipeline into the Wakatomika Creek, which feeds into the Muskingum River, the Newark Advocate reports. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) reported no fish deaths and does not suspect the material is toxic. However, it will be at least a week until results from a sample of the material come back. A company spokesman said the slurry is "just rainwater" that accumulated as a result of an "expected geologic challenge" encountered while boring a tunnel through a ridge, the article said.
