Pennsylvania family settles lawsuit regarding Marcellus shale drilling

According to an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a Washington County family has agreed to settle their lawsuit alleging their health was harmed by air pollution and water contamination from gas drilling in the Marcellus shale. The family unknowingly inherited a gas lease with Range Resources that was signed by the previous owners. As a result, several Marcellus gas wells and other facilities were installed on properties bordering the family's property which the family alleges contaminated their water supply while exposing their children to volatile organic compounds from the drilling operations. After agreeing to the settlement, the judge issued a gag order on the family whom are outspoken critics of gas drilling and also sealed the details of the settlement making them unavailable.
