Ohio senators propose bipartisan legislation to increase criminal penalties for improper brine handling

On Tuesday, Ohio Sens. Joe Schiavoni (D-Boardman) and Frank LaRose (R-Copley) introduced S.B. 46, which would increase penalties relating to the “improper disposal, transport, and management of brine” and would also establish criminal penalties for violations of certain Solid, Hazardous, and Infectious Wastes Law provisions. S.B. 46 would require the permits and registration certificates of violators to be revoked and all their future permit and registration certificate applications under the Oil and Gas Law denied.
