Ohio bill would allow hydraulic fracturing brine to be used for de-icing roads

An Ohio House committee is expected to consider legislation that would allow a byproduct of hydraulic fracturing to be used to remove ice from roadways, reports WVXU in Cincinnati. The radio station says House Bill 393 would allow for the sale of drilling brine for surface applications such as de-icing roadways. Bill co-sponsor Rep. Michael O'Brien, D-Warren, says a company, Aquasalina, processes brine from hydraulic fracturing in oil and natural gas operations to make it usable for other purposes. For more, read the full story.
