MarkWest settles air pollution claim for facilities in Appalachian basin

by MarkWest, which operates natural gas facilities across the Appalachia basin, has agreed to pay $610,000 and spend several million dollars to install emissions control technology to settle an air pollution claim brought by the federal government and state of Pennsylvania, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The newspaper says the U.S. Department of Justice announced that MarkWest Liberty Midstream Resources and its operation in Ohio, Ohio Gathering Co., will spend about $2.4 million to install equipment to reduce air emissions at facilities in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
