MarkWest gets OK to build natural gas plant in western Pennsylvania

Smith Township supervisors in Washington County, Pennsylvania have given MarkWest permission to build a natural gas processing plant off Point Pleasant Road in an area that has become “a nexus for natural gas-related infrastructure,” reports the Observer-Reporter. The newspaper says MarkWest spokesman Rob McHale could not provide a timeline for building the plant, noting “mechanical construction” of the facilities cannot begin until the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection grants a permit that covers natural gas facilities deemed minor emissions sources. But McHale said MarkWest “is going to start earth work as soon as possible” on the project.
