Major Energy Firms Are Betting on Ohio’s Utica Shale

Major players in the U.S. energy industry are spending substantial sums of money to purchase or lease large tracts of acreage in eastern Ohio in an effort to cash in on the mostly untapped Utica Shale field, according to a Wall Street Journal article.  The Utica Shale covers more than 170,000 square miles under several states, including Ohio, and it is considered by energy analysts to be one of the last great untapped fuel regions in the United States.  Some of the firms already investing in eastern Ohio include Exxon Mobil, Chesapeake Energy and Hess Corp.
