FirstEnergy Corp.'s planned $2.8 billion transmission capability investment will aid oil and gas production activities in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays

As part of its "Energizing the Future" initiative, Akron-based FirstEnergy Corp. recently announced that it plans to invest $2.8 billion in its "transmission capability across much of its footprint," the Pittsburgh Business Times reports. A key part of the initiative is meant to support Utica and Marcellus shale gas production and includes "expanding electrical capacity" in those regions.
