Environmental groups criticize new standards for shale drilling

After environmental groups and energy companies were recently hailed for their cooperation in establishing stricter standards for shale gas extraction in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio under the new Pittsburgh-based Center for Sustainable Shale Development, The Associated Press reports that the Sierra Club and other environmental groups came out today criticizing the plan, which an Ohio Citizen Action spokeswoman said "in no way represents the interests or agreement of the people being harmed by fracking in Ohio" (See the Mar 21, 2013, blog – "Major U.S. energy companies and environmental groups agree on protection standards for shale drilling").
