EIA to combine Utica, Marcellus production numbers in drilling report

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will combine the Utica and Marcellus shale plays into one Appalachia region in its Drilling Productivity Report, according to the PennEnergy news site. The agency said the overlapping shale formations have made it difficult to attribute oil and natural gas production occurring in them, so combining the two regions “better reflects the underlying geology of these formations.” In addition, the EIA is adding the Anadarko oil and gas region in Oklahoma and Texas to the report.
