Courts being asked to clarify who has final say on oil and gas activity

Voters in more cities are attempting to ban drilling, waste disposal and other practices associated with oil and natural gas wells, but state governments and the oil and gas industry are countering such bans with lawsuits, reports the Columbus Dispatch. At issue, says the newspaper, is the question of who gets to say where hydraulic fracturing and other oil and gas activities take place—state regulators or local governments. In Ohio, the question is currently pending before the Ohio Supreme Court in State of Ohio ex rel. Jack Morrison, Jr. v. Beck Energy Corp.
