Consol pulls out of Columbiana County facility as shale play shifts south

Consol Energy Inc. has pulled out of the Columbiana County Port Authority's industrial park in Leetonia as it cuts back on its oil and gas exploration activities in northeast Ohio. The location was to serve as Consol's field office as the company increased its oil and gas development in eastern Ohio, reports the Tribune Chronicle in Warren. Consol’s decision comes as drilling activity in the Utica shale play shifts to the counties south of Columbiana County where productive wet-gas formations are being drilled.
