Consol looking at ‘refracking’ horizontal wells in Marcellus shale play

Consol Energy is looking at starting a program that would “refrack” as many as 200 wells in the Marcellus shale play in Pennsylvania, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The newspaper says the Pittsburgh-based company is considering that option because of results from refracking some horizontal wells in Greene County, Pennsylvania earlier this year. Based on five years of drilling experience and with significant advances in data and technology, Consol hired oil and gas services company Halliburton, re-fracked the wells and forced out far more gas than the wells had previously produced.
