Consol Energy to focus on dry-gas development in Utica shale play

Consol Energy Inc.’s natural gas strategy will include a lot more dry-gas development in the Utica shale play “as some of the economics of the basin have shifted away from the wet-gas areas of the Marcellus shale (play),” reports the Pittsburgh Business Times. “We believe the Utica will make up a larger portion of Consol's development plans in the future," Consol Chief Operating Officer Timothy Dugan told industry executives at a recent conference in Pittsburgh. Consol, which halted its drilling program in 2015 and has yet to resume it, has 28 Utica shale wells in production in eastern Ohio, southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, according to the Business Times.
