Companies look at developing gas-to-liquids plants in Marcellus, Utica shale plays

Dominion Energy and Intrexon Corp. have entered into an agreement to explore development of biological conversion gas-to-liquids (GTL) plants in the Utica and Marcellus shale plays, reports the Youngstown Business Journal. The newspaper says the project calls for construction of facilities that use Intrexon’s method of converting methane into high carbon compounds such as isobutanol. Dominion would construct, own and operate the production facilities somewhere in the Utica and Marcellus regions of eastern Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to the Business Journal.
