Chesapeake halts drilling in Utica, Marcellus shale plays

Chesapeake Energy Corp. is no longer drilling for oil and natural gas in the Utica and Marcellus shale plays in eastern Ohio and northern Pennsylvania, reports the Youngstown Business Journal. In a release on its earnings for the fourth quarter of 2015 and all of 2015, Chesapeake said it averaged two operating rigs in the Utica during the fourth quarter and just one in the Marcellus. “The company has now released all operated rigs” in both shale plays, said Chesapeake, giving no indication when drilling may resume.
