Battelle is using a $1.8 million federal grant to find the best wastewater injections sights in the region

The nonprofit global research and development organization Battelle is currently engaged in a two-year project to "find the best locations [in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia] to safely inject more waste" from hydraulic fracturing operations, The Columbus Dispatch reports. Funding came from a $1.8 million U.S. Department of Energy grant awarded by the Texas-based Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America. The partnership, which is "made up of university officials and oil and gas companies, including Chevron Corp. and ConocoPhillips Co.," hopes Battelle will produce "a map and database that drilling companies can use to locate spots for new disposal wells," the article said.
