Recovery of Utica shale play tied to work-force issues
The scope of recovery in Ohio’s Utica shale play will depend in part on having enough workers to meet industry demand, reports the Canton Repository. Speaking at the recent Utica Upstream Conference in North Canton, Dan Schweitzer, director of Stark State College’s Oil & Gas and Environmental Technologies programs, said the conventional wisdom is work-force demand will skyrocket in the next 18 months as companies such as Ascent Resources, Halliburton, Marathon Petroleum and Momentum hire workers. But, Schweitzer said that Stark State’s programs have struggled to recruit high school students despite offering scholarships and training for good-paying oil and gas jobs.
