Pennsylvania agency orders halt to construction of natural gas pipeline

Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has ordered Sunoco to halt construction on the Mariner East 2 natural gas pipeline across the southern part of the state, citing a series of spills and other alleged violations of state law, according to The Associated Press. The news service says DEP ordered Sunoco to come up with a plan to fix the problems that have plagued the $2.5 billion project. The pipeline will carry propane, butane and ethane from the Marcellus shale play to an export terminal near Philadelphia.
