Oil and gas industry opposes President Trump’s steel tariffs plan

President Donald Trump’s announcement that he intends to levy substantial tariffs on imported steel and aluminum could initiate a battle between the oil and natural gas industry and American steel and pipe manufacturers, according to Kallanish Energy. The news site says oil and gas representatives have slammed the president’s plan, saying it would kill energy jobs by raising costs for big infrastructure projects, including pipelines. In addition, Charlie Riedel, executive director of the Center for Liquefied Natural Gas, said the tariffs could have the “unintended effect of endangering much-needed LNG export projects” that use special steel components not produced in the United States.
