Schools and cities are looking to cash in on shale

Although some cities, like Athens, oppose shale drilling as a matter of public health with regard to the potential for drinking water contamination, several other cities as well as schools across Ohio are pursuing offers to lease land for shale drilling, The Columbus Dispatch reports. Hocking College officials formed a committee to study a proposed $3 million deal to lease 1,200 acres near Nelsonville, while the City of Steubenville will receive more than $590,000 in a deal that leases 110 acres to Hess Oil, the article said.
