USGS releases estimate of Utica shale’s oil and gas resources

The U.S. Geological Survey announced yesterday that it has assessed the oil and gas resources for the Utica shale and determined that it contains “about 38 trillion cubic feet of undiscovered, technically recoverable natural gas (at the mean estimate),” according to a press release from the agency. The assessment found that the Utica shale has a mean of 9 million barrels of unconventional natural gas liquids and a mean of 940 million barrels of unconventional oil resources. For more, read the press release and the USGS report.
