Muskingum Watershed District halts sale of water to oil and gas drillers
|
Following a wave of protest, the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District has reversed course and instituted a temporary moratorium on the sale of water for hydraulic fracturing, the Newark Advocate reports (See the Jun 05, 2012, blog – "Muskingum Watershed District's shale deal sparks protest"). Although the original deal with Gulfport Energy will be fully honored, no more sales will take place until the district receives the results of "a study from the U.S. Geological Survey on water availability at three of the district's man-made reservoirs," the article said.
