Old leases prevent Columbiana County landowners from cashing in on the shale boom
 

The realization that Columbia Gas Transmission owns the mineral rights to 25,000 acres in Columbiana County where a sandstone repository called the Brinker Storage Field is located is preventing landowners from signing lucrative deals with Chesapeake Energy, The Plain Dealer reports. In an effort to gain control over their mineral rights, these landowners are asking the local court to decide "whether Columbia Gas Transmission is actually using their property for storage and is living up to other terms of the leases," the article said.
